THE ROLE OF NATIONAL TRADITIONS IN FOSTERING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article explores the importance of integrating national values into environmental education for primary school students. In the context of Uzbekistan, where cultural traditions emphasize harmony with nature, the study investigates how culturally grounded pedagogical methods can enhance students’ ecological awareness and moral responsibility. Conducted in three primary schools in the Surkhandarya region, the research involved second- and third-grade students and used a mixed-methods approach, including diagnostic assessments, experimental lessons, and post-intervention evaluations. The experimental group was exposed to educational content featuring folk tales, traditional proverbs, role-playing games, and environmental activities rooted in national heritage. Results showed significant improvement in students’ emotional connection to nature, environmental behavior, and awareness of ecological issues. The study concludes that national values serve as effective tools for forming ethical and socially responsible environmental attitudes in children. The integration of such values with modern educational technologies is recommended to enhance engagement and long-term impact. This culturally relevant approach contributes to developing not only ecological literacy but also national identity and a sense of civic responsibility among young learners.
