Abstract

This article analyzes the concept of “power” in international relations theory, focusing on its two main forms — “soft power” and “hard power.” The study explores how realism and neorealism interpret the essence of power and its role in competition and pursuit of national interests among states. The views of Joseph Nye on “soft power,” as well as those of Henry Kissinger and Kenneth Waltz on “hard power,” are compared to highlight their theoretical and practical significance. The paper also discusses how the combination of soft and hard power strategies has become a defining feature of modern international politics, determining states’ influence, image, and security in the globalized world.
