Abstract

Ancient Greek and Roman medicine laid the foundations for many later medical traditions in Europe and the Mediterranean world. Although the scientific knowledge of the time was limited, physicians in these civilizations developed systematic ways to observe symptoms, diagnose diseases, and recommend treatments. This article explores the major methods of treatment used in ancient Greece and Rome, including herbal medicine, surgical practices, diet and lifestyle therapy, spiritual healing, and the theory of the four humors. The contributions of influential physicians such as Hippocrates, Galen, and Discords are also discussed. By examining these early medical systems, we can better understand the historical roots of modern healthcare and the long development of medical knowledge.
